Description
Machine Supplements Maltodextrin is used to increase caloric intake and for post workout insulin spikes. Maltodextrin is a common ingredient used in many mass-gain supplement formulations. Its high Glycemic Index (GI) provides fast-absorption which makes it a great addition to post-workout shakes for glycogen replenishment, efficient nutrient delivery as well as assistance in avoiding potential catabolic (muscle burning) states.
Glycogen Replenishment
Glycogen is stored in your liver and muscles and is a fuel source for your muscles, particularly during heavy lifting. Glycogen is best replenished immediately after a workout by providing the body with glucose in the form of carbohydrates such as Dextrose or Maltodextrin.
Nutrient Delivery
Maltodextrin releases insulin in the body which is responsible for the transfer of nutrients such as protein, amino acids and creatine from the bloodstream into your body's cells. When fast digesting carbohydrates are taken with other nutrients, the insulin released helps transfer the nutrients efficiently to the muscle cells where they are needed. This is of particular importance pre-workout if you are taking other supplements and wish to feel the effects during that workout.
That’s why it is recommended that you ingest carbohydrates when consuming other supplements, pre-workout or post-workout.
Providing Energy & Sparing Protein
The body uses carbohydrates as its main source of fuel, when carbs are inadequate the body is forced to break down protein into energy in a process known as ketosis. When there is insufficient energy the body will begin to catabolise (breakdown) muscle tissue for fuel. Ingesting carbohydrates will help prevent this from occurring.
Induces Insulin Spikes
Maltodextrin is a high GI (Glycemic Index) carbohydrate, when ingested our body has a fast insulin response, also known as an ‘Insulin Spike’. Insulin is responsible for the transfer of nutrients from the bloodstream into your body's cells and therefore an insulin spike can actually speed up the process of protein synthesis (building muscle tissue) and muscle recovery from the workout.
Insulin is an extremely anabolic hormone as it plays an important role for anybody involved in intense exercise. Spiking insulin after an intense training session during the post-workout window where glycogen stores are depleted will help to optimise muscle gains.
Mix 50g with 250ml liquid of choice in a shaker until dissolved.
Post-workout Insulin Spike
60-75 grams of Maltodextrin are needed to induce an optimal insulin spike post-workout.We recommend taking other supplements you consume such as creatine with the Maltodextrin at this time.
Post-workout Glycogen Replenishment
This depends on a number of factors including:- Glycogen levels prior to exercise
- Workout intensity
- Workout duration
- Glycogen capacity
The optimal amount of Maltodextrin needed will vary and will need to be gauged by the individual.
