Slow Digesting Protein
Humans digest Micellar Casein much slower than other proteins. Consuming a slow digesting protein such as Casein ensures that amino acid levels remain elevated in blood, even during long periods without foods such as when you are asleep or when you are between meals.
In his 2007 review of protein consumption, researcher Jay Hoffman notes that humans digest casein slowly over the course of several hours rather than in a couple hours like whey protein.
Prevents Muscle Catabolism
Casein has a strong anti-catabolic effect which is effective at retaining muscle mass during times of non-eating or during an athletes cutting (fatloss) phase.
Researchers from the Universite Clermont Auvergne in France examined the effects of slow and fast dietary proteins on muscle breakdown in healthy adults. Participants consumed a single meal rich in casein or whey protein, a fast-digesting protein. Scientists reported that casein protein inhibited whole body muscle breakdown by 34 percent.
Assists with fat loss or cutting
Casein can be an effective supplement for fat loss and weight management since it is low calorie but effective at satiating appetite. Micellar Casein does not mix as effectively as Whey Protein Isolate and will require more vigorous mixing to dissolve in liquid. We suggest blending casein whenever possible or stirring it with a spoon. If you mix Casein in a shaker, expect it to froth significantly.
